This quote backs up many of the things Marilyn Monroe talked about in her book. I choose this quote because I was shocking that she had been raped during her life time.He was a stern looking man, and everybody respected him and called him Mr. I was almost nine, and I lived with a family that rented a room to a man named Kimmel. “Then one day I found out about sex without asking any questions. So, when I read this line I was a little caught off guard because I thought she wouldn’t want to go back to her life as a poor person because of her bad experiences before. Throughout the book she mentioned a lot about how miserable her early years of her life were. Monroe grew up as an orphan and was very poor until her 20s.

I was surprised because many women back in that time period would marry wealthy men just for the money, even if they didn’t like him at all.

  • I choose this quote because I was surprised that Marilyn Monroe rather marry a poor boy she loved than a rich man.
  • ‘ “I’m only going to marry for one reason–love.” He asked me, “Which would you rather marry– a poor boy you loved or a rich man you liked?” “A poor boy I loved,” I said.’ (Monroe, page 136) Hollywood doesn’t consider what a movie can do to the actors character, they mostly care about making a successful movie that making a lot of money. I like this quote because I agree with I strongly agree with it. I found it ironic that Marilyn Monroe said that because eventually she did end up selling her soul to Hollywood just so she could make a lot of money.
  • I choose this quote because it really stuck out to me when I was reading this book.
  • “Hollywood’s a place where they’ll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss, and fifty cents for your soul.”(Monroe, page 53) That is when Marilyn Monroe’s determination and confidence faded because her acting career was going nowhere without showing her sex appeal. She gave up because she was being denied by many movie companies because all they saw in her was her appearance. After many years of trying very hardly to have a successful acting career without all the sex appeal she gave up. She was so determined to become an amazing actress, instead of being known as a sex icon. I think this quote describes the book very well because throughout the whole book she talked about how she spent all her money she made on acting, dancing and singing lessons.
  • I choose this quotes because it really shows how badly Marilyn Monroe wanted to be a great actress.
  • Not men, not money, not love but to ability to act.” (Monroe, page 64)

But, my God, how I wanted to learn! To change, to improve! I didn’t want anything else. “I could actually feel my lack of talent, as if it were cheap clothes I wear inside.
